Dr. DuPre Sanders
Senior Minister

Dr. DuPre Sanders is a native of Fairfax South Carolina. He is a graduate of Wofford College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science. After graduating from college, DuPre worked in business for seven years. At the age of 29, he answered the call to pastoral ministry.

In 1990, DuPre received a Master of Divinity/Languages degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2006 from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Prior to becoming the senior minister at Roxboro Baptist Church on July 25, 1999 he served as Assoc. Pastor/Youth at Bethesda Baptist Church (1989-1990) and Senior Pastor at Franklinton Baptist Church (1990-1999).

He has served in numerous positions of denominational leadership. On the associational level he has served as vice Moderator, Evangelism Director, and President of the Pastor's Conference. He has been a special worker in the area of discipleship with the Baptist State Convention of N.C. and has served on a Regional Futurist Task Force and also served on the Leadership Task Force of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina.

DuPre is married to the former Karen Horger of Orangeburg, S.C. "Karey" graduated from Clemson University and is a math instructor at Peidmont Community College in Roxboro. DuPre and Karey are the proud parents of two sons, Joey (born in 1985) and Josh (born in 1992). The family enjoys hiking, camping, traveling and cheering for the Atlanta Braves.

Mike Moose
Associate Minister (Music)

 

A native of Yorktown, Virginia, Mike Moose has been active as a church musician since the age of twelve and has served as music minister at Roxboro Baptist Church since August, 2000. He is a pianist, organist, composer, and arranger. He has written choral anthems, worship songs, works for solo piano, hymn introductions for organ, and various song and hymn arrangements for solo, ensemble, and congregational use. Mike tours the state as a singer and keyboardist with the North Carolina Baptist Singers and Orchestra. He has Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Virginia and Old Dominion University, and a Master of Arts degree in Musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1999, he was ordained into the ministry at Ephesus Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina.

Mike has two daughters: Amy (born in 1995) and Alissa (born in 1999).

Mike is married to Jill Burleson, who is a Nurse Practitioner / Physician Extender with the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation Division of the Cancer Center at Duke University Medical Center.  They enjoy reading, attending concerts and musicals, experiencing the ocean surf, relaxing in the mountains, and following a variety of sports.

 

Chris Schelin
Associate Minister (Youth and Congregational Life)

Chris Schelin was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He received the call to pastoral ministry while attending youth camp at the age of 15.  As a result, Chris attended Louisiana College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and History.  He moved to North Carolina to continue his ministerial education at Duke Divinity School.  Chris received his Master of Divinity degree in 2008 and began his service at Roxboro Baptist Church on May 25.

 

Although this is his first permanent ministry position, Chris has been actively involved in churches from a young age and has served as an intern for five different congregations since the beginning of college.  He was licensed to the gospel ministry in 2001 and ordained in 2008.

 

Chris is married to the former Kelly Hardenbrook, who also graduated from Duke Divinity School in 2008.  They enjoy hiking, gardening, their porch, and their pets.  Chris hopes that sometime in the near future he also will have a sailboat.

 

 

Christy Hawkins
Financial Secretary

 

Christy Hawkins grew up in Henderson and has lived in Roxboro since September 1990.  She has served as the Church financial Secretary since September 2002.

Christy is married to Billy Hawkins and they have two daughters:  Delaina (born in 1995) and Carlee (born in 2000).  They are members of Theresa Baptist Church.

Christy and her family enjoy walking, playing ball, car shows, and spending time with one another.

 

Wendy Oliver
Church Secretary

Originally from South Boston, Virginia, Wendy Oliver has lived in Roxboro for the last twenty-two years. She has served as the Church Secretary of Roxboro Baptist Church since April 2007. Wendy’s formal education includes graduating from Piedmont Community College with an A.S. in Business Computer Programming.

Wendy is married to Rev. Rusty Oliver and they have two beautiful daughters: Maranda (born in 1997) and Mackenzie (born in 2001). Rusty serves as the Associate Pastor of Youth and Children at Bethany Baptist Church in Rougemont, NC.

Wendy and her family enjoy camping, bicycling, various sports activities and spending time together!
